Frequently Asked Questions

Fitness Training

When can I start exercising?

The ideal time to begin training is in your first trimester, this gives you the best opportunity to develop your fitness and strength throughout your pregnancy, but you can begin your program any time provided you are less than 30 weeks pregnant.

Post birth, the time to get back to exercise varies dependant on the individual, largely due to the type of delivery.  As a guide, most women are encouraged to start pelvic floor exercises fairly soon after giving birth. More vigorous exercise is recommended from six weeks for a vaginal delivery or eight weeks after a caesarean.

Please consult your physician before starting any pre or post natal training. You will need your doctors permission before registering as a Bub & Beyond Fitness client.

What sort of exercises do you do in a session?

The sessions we do are a mix of cardio, functional movement, boxing and free weights to really keep your body guessing. Our programs include the use of fitballs, resistance bands,  Pilates based exercises, TRX and hand weights. Weights are important because we need to build a little lean muscle in order to help our bodies burn more fat when we’re not exercising. But don’t worry, it’s not the kind of program where you’ll bulk up – our workouts are designed specifically for women and target the problem areas of our bodies (yes, it is possible!), helping us to develop healthy bodies.

I’m worried I won’t be able to keep up, how hard is it?

Sessions are catered to all fitness levels and gestation periods so you can train at your own pace.

How long does a session go for?

All sessions run for one hour.

How many people are in a session?

Group sessions are limited to eight people, Buddy sessions up to four, or you could do one on one with your trainer.

Do I need to book a session?

Bookings are essential for all our sessions.  You can book online or by calling (see Contact Us).

How much does it cost?

Various packages are available. Please see our Training Prices and Packages.

Do you offer a trial session?

Yes, we invite all mums (and mum’s to be) to enjoy a one-off trial session before committing to being part of the Bub & Beyond Fitness T.E.A.M.

What results can I expect?

Honestly, this is up to you. We will be there to guide you but ultimately you’ll get out what you put in. You can train all you like but if your diet sucks, then you probably won’t get very far! But if you choose to make a lifestyle change (like I did!) then you can expect to achieve some great results like decreased body fat, increased muscle tone and most importantly feeling happy and healthy. If you make the change you’ll be blown away by how quickly you can lose cm off your arms, waist and thighs. One word of warning though: don’t be obsessed with weight alone! Muscle weighs a lot more than fat, so if you’ve already lost most of your baby weight you might be surprised to find  that you’re weight may not move dramatically but you will become slimmer and fitter.

What happens if it rains?

A little rain won’t dampen our spirits so we train rain or shine. We do try to move things under cover where possible, but a trainer will always be waiting at the usual spot. However, if it looks impractical or unsafe to run a session (ie: thunder and lightning or high temperatures/humidity) we may have to cancel. We will give you at least one hours notice if we have to cancel a session we also advise clients to ‘Like’ our Facebook Page to keep an eye out for updates.

Of course, if there is a cancellation you will be offered the opportunity to make up the session.

What if I can’t make a session?

We require 24 hours notice if you are unable to attend a session. Cancellations made 24 hours or more prior to the booked session can be rescheduled. If you cancel later than 24 hours before your booked session, it will be forfeited.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear suitable training gear and shoes, a supportive bra (even two if you are breastfeeding), bring water and dress yourself for the weather. If sunny remember sunscreen and a hat!

What about diet?

Training is only part of the solution. Understanding what you eat and what is and isn’t working for you is equally important. So we offer our customers nutritional advice and recipes to help get the most out of their training.

What sort of exercises are in a program?

The programs are a mix of cardio, functional movement, free weights, Pilates based and resistance exercises to really keep your body guessing.

First trimester programs include interval training to get your heart rate up and strength training with a fitball – preparation for its increased use in the coming months.

Second trimester, medium intensity cardio partners functional movements with higher repetitions. You’ll prepare your body for labour and mimic daily movements for when bub arrives.

Third trimester you’ll still be working on that pelvic floor! Low intensity exercises will help ease the aches and pains of the final weeks and aid your post delivery recovery.

Postnatal programs include strength, toning and cardio training, teamed with pelvic floor exercises.

Will I need to buy lots of equipment?

A fitball, resistance band and hand weights would be beneficial, but not essential.

How much do the programs cost?

Various packages are available. Please see Purchase Programs.

What makes up a program package?

Along with the fitness programs, packages include nutrition plans that are easy to follow and delicious. An introductory session via Skype, where we will discuss your goals and go through correct form and technique before embarking on your fitness program. Also chat once a month via Skype to discuss your progress.
